Find the Right Dreadlock Consultation for Your Hair

Your hair is the starting point—not the service menu.

Whether you need straightforward maintenance, help planning new dreadlocks or extensions, corrective work, or specialist support for thinning hair and alopecia, you do not have to diagnose the right service yourself.

Start with your situation

Which description sounds most like your hair?

Choose the closest starting point. Full eligibility information appears before payment.

Why does the assessment come first?

What looks like routine maintenance can sometimes involve weakened roots, unsuitable sectioning, accumulated damage or reconstruction needs.

The correct service should be determined by the condition, density and history of your hair—not simply by the appointment name that appears closest.

The method behind the assessment

Precision begins before the first dreadlock is created

Sectioning, density, root direction, weak areas, long-term hold and what the hair can realistically carry all need to be considered before work begins.

This assessment-led approach supports the Precision Intermatting Method™: a mapping-led, structure-aware method refined across delicate, complex and resistant hair types.

Explore the Method

The tool alone is not the method.

Precision comes from how the hair is assessed, mapped, tensioned and built. The method is adapted to the condition and behaviour of the hair rather than forcing every client through the same process.

Healthy established dreadlocks

Healthy Dreadlock Maintenance Assessment

£69

For straightforward root maintenance where your existing dreadlocks and sectioning are healthy, stable and established.

Only choose this when all are true:

  • Your dreadlocks are healthy and established.
  • You have approximately one inch of regrowth.
  • Your sections remain clear and stable.
  • You only require straightforward root maintenance.

Do not choose this route for:

  • Thinning hair, alopecia or fragile areas.
  • Excessive regrowth, matting or merging.
  • Breakage, structural damage or weak roots.
  • Repair, reconstruction or corrective work.
Important: This is not a lower-cost route for complex work. If you are uncertain about the condition of your dreadlocks, choose the Dreadlock Planning Consultation.

Main planning route

Dreadlock Planning Consultation

£120

For new dreadlocks, permanent extensions, repair, reconstruction or a starting point that requires proper service planning.

This route is appropriate for:

  • Fresh dreadlocks.
  • Permanent dreadlock extensions.
  • Repair or reconstruction.
  • Grown-out previous sets.
  • Substantial changes or mixed starting points.

The consultation helps establish:

  • What your hair is realistically ready for.
  • The most appropriate service route.
  • What may require caution or should be avoided.
  • The work and next stage that may be required.
Choose this consultation when: you need a properly considered plan before committing to fresh dreadlocks, permanent extensions, substantial repair, reconstruction or corrective work.

Deeper specialist assessment

Advanced Case Consultation

£199

For vulnerable or higher-risk starting points that require deeper specialist consideration before permanent work is planned.

This route is intended for:

  • Thinning hair or significant hair loss.
  • Alopecia or traction alopecia.
  • Fragile hairlines and weakened edges.
  • Bald spots, sparse or vulnerable areas.
  • Compromised hair and higher-risk cases.

The deeper assessment considers:

  • Your photographs and relevant hair history.
  • Current condition and structural limitations.
  • What your hair may safely carry.
  • What may realistically be achievable.
  • The most protective route forward.
This is specialist planning, not a promise that every service will be suitable. Its purpose is to establish what may be realistic, safe and appropriate for your individual starting point.

Why quotations follow assessment

Service prices vary because every head of hair, existing structure and desired outcome is different.

Smaller maintenance appointments may begin from around £100. Fresh dreadlocks, permanent extensions, reconstruction and specialist transformations can range from hundreds into thousands.

Some advanced or multi-stage cases may exceed £2,000. Your final service quotation is provided after assessment.

Location and reach

In-person dreadlock services are carried out in Brighton & Hove, South East UK, unless another arrangement has been agreed.

Consultations are available to clients elsewhere in the UK and internationally.

Frequently asked questions

Before you begin

What if I am unsure which consultation I need?

Choose £120 for repair, extensions, reconstruction or uncertainty. Choose £199 whenever thinning, alopecia, hair loss or vulnerable areas are involved. The £69 route is only for clearly healthy, established dreadlocks requiring straightforward maintenance.

How does the consultation process work?

After payment, complete the relevant assessment form and provide the requested photographs, history and goals. Your starting point is reviewed before the most appropriate next step is recommended.

Can I receive a service quotation before assessment?

Not accurately. The required work depends on your hair, scalp, density, existing structure, history and intended result.

How is the £120 Planning Consultation carried out?

It usually begins with your assessment form, photographs and message-based guidance by email or WhatsApp. If a deeper live review is required, the Advanced Case route may be recommended.

How is the £199 Advanced Case Consultation carried out?

This deeper specialist route may include an extended WhatsApp review or Zoom consultation where needed.

Can you continue another loctician’s work?

Sometimes, but not automatically. Existing dreadlocks may need a fresh assessment where there is major regrowth, discomfort, breakage, merging, weak roots or structural damage.

Where are you based?

Dreadlocks by KNOT is based in Brighton & Hove, South East UK. In-person services are normally carried out here.

What if I live far away or outside the UK?

Consultations can be provided remotely. Depending on your case, you may receive guidance about the safest route and whether travelling for specialist work should be considered.

Do you travel or provide home visits?

In suitable cases this may be discussed after assessment, depending on the work, complexity and location.

Can you guarantee a particular result?

No specific result can responsibly be guaranteed before the hair has been properly assessed. The consultation establishes what appears realistic, safe and appropriate.

Start with clarity

You do not have to work this out alone.

Choose the description that most accurately reflects your hair. The assessment process will help establish the safest and most appropriate way forward.
